The driver was consequently arrested by a second police officer.
According to police, the driver became furious when the police officer told him that he would have to follow her back to the station as the breathalyser showed that he had 73 microgrammes of alcohol on his breath instead of the limit of 22.
The suspect then swore at her, hit her in the face and bit her. The officer suffered bruising to the nose along with two bite marks on her left arm and cuts and bruises.
According to police sources passersby also saw the suspect bang his head on the asphalt.
Both the 37-year-old and the police officer were treated at Larnaca general hospital.
