Cyprus retail trade down provisional 1.4% in April

The volume of retail trade (excluding automotive fuel) fell by 1.4% over the same month of the previous year in April, according to provisional figures from the Statistical Service.

The turnover volume index of retail trade is published with a new base year (2005=100) and uses the new version of the statistical classification of economic activities, NACE Rev. 2.

Revised figures for March show that the turnover volume index fell by 2.0% compared with March 2008 but rose by 2.2% compared with February.

For the period January-March 2009 the index recorded an increase of 0.4% compared with the corresponding period of 2008, while the provisional data for April suggest a fall of 0.1% in the first four months.

Meanwhile, the turnover value index (except automotive fuel) show an increase of 0.8% in March 2009 compared with March 2008 and a provisional increase of 0.4% for April.
