H4C launches small projects programme

PRESIDENT Demetris Christofias yesterday wrapped his official visit to Austria with the promise of further strengthening trade and economic ties with the country.

Addressing a business forum in Vienna, Christofias said the recent discovery of large quantities of natural gas in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone created extraordinary prospects for partnerships.

He added that he was confident the forum would further enhance and strengthen trade and economic relations between Cyprus and Austria.

He said participants’ presence at the forum proved they recognised the prospects of Cyprus, which he said had transformed into a modern international business and services centre.

“The strategic geographical location and the attractive business environment as well as the legal, banking and financial system, combined with the necessary infrastructure, establish Cyprus as an attractive destination for foreign investments,” said Christofias. “These benefits are reflected in the total of foreign investments in the country, which have exceeded 13 billion euro.”

Christofias’ Austrian counterpart, Heinz Fishcher, said his country had great interest in Cyprus business-wise and said there were excellent possibilities for cooperation on economic matters. He added that the island’s natural gas wealth was a sound foundation for a modern economy. Cyprus as a democratic country and EU member state, has the capability to produce energy, said Fishcher.
