Europe shares gain - Novartis rises, oils fall

To attend World Economic Forum on Europe and Central Asia 2008
Cyprus Finance Minister Charilaos Stavrakis departed Thursday for Turkey where he will attend and address the World Economic Forum on Europe and Central Asia 2008 to be held in Constantinople October 30 to November 1.

The Conference will focus on Controlling Challenges in Defining a Collaborative Future and will be attended by Presidents, Prime Ministers, Foreign and Finance Ministers of EU and Central Asian countries.

Stavrakis will then visit Brussels to attend a meeting of the Eurogroup finance Ministers and a meeting of EU Finance Ministers (ECOFIN) to be held November 3-4.

On November 5, Stavrakis will travel to Moscow where he will co-chair a meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation between Cyprus and Russia with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation
Stanislav S. Voskresenskiy. The participants at the meeting will discuss issues addressed by the Intergovernmental Committee and the two Ministers will sign the Protocol of the 5th Meeting of the Cyprus-Russia Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation.

During his stay in the Russian capital, Stavrakis will have a meeting with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Kudrin.

Stavrakis and Kudrin will discuss issues regarding the further tightening of financial relations between Russia and Cyprus under the new circumstances which the crisis in international markets has created and the recession of the world economy.

Stavrakis will return home on November 8.
