Beware of Deceptive Electronic Messages Impersonating the Tax Department
The Tax Department informs that deceptive electronic messages are circulating with the logo of the Government Portal “GOV.CY,” which encourage unsuspecting citizens to scan a QR code in order to receive a VAT refund. They also cite an incorrect electronic contact address referencing the new Computer System TAX FOR ALL (TFA).
The Department urges citizens to be cautious of such messages, which attempt to deceive users into opening suspicious files or following malicious links, and advises anyone who has received such messages to ignore them.
It is emphasized that VAT refunds, Income Tax refunds, etc., are ONLY made via bank transfer to an account whose IBAN has been declared by the taxpayer to the Department, following secure procedures.
Furthermore, it is stressed that any communication from the Tax Department with taxpayers via electronic messages is ONLY conducted through email addresses ending with: @tax.mof.gov.cy.
