Inflation climbs to 3_2 percent in August |
Year on year inflation climbed in August, with prices rising by 3.2% over the year earlier compared with 2.6% in July.
Compared with the previous month, prices increased by 0.82%.
The Statistical Service said that this was mainly owing to increases in the prices of certain fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, bread and electricity.
Decreases were recorded in the prices of air fares, petroleum products and certain clothing items (because of the summer sales).
For the period January-August 2010 the CPI recorded an increase of 2.4% compared with the corresponding period of 2009.
Meanwhile, the EU-harmonised rate of inflation (HICP) rose to 3.4% in August from 2.7% in July 2010 and deflation of 0.9% in August 2009.
For the period January-August 2010, the HICP recorded an increase of 2.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
