Cyprus annual inflation stays below 1% in May |
The consumer price index increased by 0.74% over the previous month in May to 110.89.
The Statistical Service reported that this is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain fresh fruit, petroleum products, certain clothing items and water rates.
Decreases were recorded in the prices of certain fresh vegetables, the purchase of motor-cars, electricity and potatoes.
The annual inflation rate remained below 1% for a second consecutive month, reaching 0.6% compared with 0.7% in April 2009 and 4.9% in May 2008.
For the period January-May 2009, the CPI recorded an increase of 0.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
In 2008 the CPI inflation rate was 4.7%.
